Calendula Flower (Calendula officinalis L.) is a plant that attracts those with its orange-colored flowers and is home to the European continent. There is culture in many parts of the world, including in our country. Its traditional use is quite common in plants. In Anatolia, the flower parts are used for constipation and wound healing.
Many scientific studies have demonstrated clinical effects of the same medicine, and it has appeared in many monographs, including the WHO monograph.
Similarly chemically, mineral salts, Calendin, a painful substance, contain approximately 1.5% mucylage, triterpenic saponocytes (Calenduloside), triterpene alcohols (arnidiol, farradiol, I and ß-amyrin, taraksasterol). The pigments that give color to the flowers are the most important components of this plant and are divided into two groups: carotenoids (carotene, lycopene, violoxantin, flavoxantin) and flavonoids (isorhamnetol glikozitler). The antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of these chemical compounds have been demonstrated in in vitro and in vivo studies. It has also found its own place in the production of cosmetic preparations.
The colored portion obtained from the flowers is used as a natural dye in fabrics, food and cosmetics.
