English Ivy (Hedera helix L.) is a perennial plant that grows widely in our country and is home to the mild regions of Europe and Asia. In many places of Anatolia, it is traditionally used for a variety of purposes (to keep from wounds and burns and to relieve cough).
The most basic chemical component of the plant is triterpenic saponin, known as Hederasaponine C.In addition, there are also various saponins, flavonoids, phenolic acids and cascades.
The monographs of EMA and ESCOP indicate that it is used in the treatment of cough, chronic bronchitis and various respiratory diseases.
Scientific studies have also shown that the solvents and extracts made in different proportions have antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.
There are standardized products produced in Europe and in our country.
