Tribulus terrestris, known as Tribulus in our country, grows naturally in temperate and tropical areas such as southern Europe, North Africa and Australia, while it can be found almost everywhere in Turkey.
Traditionally used in Chinese medicine, Tribulus is used in Anatolia for skin, heart and fungal infections.
Its main constituents are steroidal saponins. The most important of these is protodiossin, which is found in the fruit and leaves. In addition, kemferol, kemferol-3-glycoside, triboloside components are also found in leaves and fruits.
Studies with extracts obtained with various solvents have shown that Tribulus has anti-urolithiasis, cardioactive, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, immunomodulatory, aphrodisiac and infertility effects.
